Oxygen permeability and medical product packaging design


a company has a powdery medical product. Because the product is very sensitive to oxygen and GA is added, it is traditionally packed in a glass ampere bottle. For the convenience of users, the company is now ready to put the products in bags. In order to design bags, a series of materials and formed packages must be evaluated for oxygen transmission rate (TR)

step 1 Evaluation of material oxygen permeability:

firstly, the oxygen permeability of three materials to be selected was tested. The experiment was carried out on MOCON ox tran2/21 (see Figure 1), and the test condition was 23C, 100% oxygen. The three tested materials are composite film containing aluminum foil, aluminized film and high barrier composite film. The experimental results of oxygen permeability are listed in Table 1, One core problem in the result display document is that "the external thermal insulation materials for civil buildings should adopt materials with combustion performance of class A, which shows that the composite film containing aluminum foil has the best barrier property.

step 2 Inspection of simple formed packaging bags:

after selecting the composite film containing aluminum foil, the customer requires to inspect the formed simple packaging bags (provided by the composite film manufacturer). The reason for the test is to know whether the processing process has damaged the oxygen barrier. The manufacturer provides bags with four sides sealed, as shown in Figure 3 and Figure 4
